What Family Fishing Means To Me, by Heath Hutchison

From the time I saw my first fishing pole I was hooked.

I started fishing when I was a little boy. My Dad used to take me fishing in the ponds, creeks, and riverbanks of Southeastern Ohio. When I was thirteen, my mom, sister, and I moved to California. My mother met my step-father there, and lucky for me he loves to fish. He took me to his favorite fishing spots and honed my fishing skills even more. As I grew older, though, I put my rod and reel in the garage and lost track of my love of fishing.

Then tragedy struck. My sister, Jennifer, was diagnosed with brain cancer. And a few years later, she lost her battle. It was devastating for our family. I became depressed.
One day I decided to get out of my slump and leave the house. I went to the garage and dug out my old fishing pole and blew the dust off it. I ended up at Loveland Reservoir in Alpine, California where, that very day, I met another father-like mentor, Kelly Utz. I guess that meeting was meant to be! He showed me everything I needed to know about fishing with artificial bait and good offset Hooks.
Ever since then I have been fishing as hard as I can.
And now I feel it is up to me to get my  family and friends involved in fishing. There’s a lot more to it than just teaching someone how to fish. Fishing can be a life-changer for some and just good family fun for others. The fees we pay help to protect the fish and keep them around for future generations. It is important that we involve our children and family so we can keep fishing, and so that our children can, too. I am thankful for the people who have been in my life and have opened the Great Outdoors to me.

“There’s three things that stand out to me about this hook: it’s sleek it’s slick and it’s sharp!! It has a small diameter that makes a smaller hole in the fish’s mouth. Its slick finish allows me to re-use a worm on multiple fish. It’s sharp!! Out of the package put all three together you have a surgeon’s needle.” Give them a try. You won’t be disappointed.
