Aniket Ghai, from New York City, recently took ADDYA Hooks on his vacation in the Caribbean, to the spectacular habitat of the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. Here’s his catch, a nice bonefish. He’s also sporting an ADDYA Hooks T-Shirt. Thanks Aniket!
WHAT IS THE SIAN KA’AN BIOSPHERE RESERVE?
A sublime area of natural beauty, Sian Ka’an is home to thousands of species of flora and fauna, which is why the region became a designated Biosphere Reserve in 1986. A year later, Sian Ka’an was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO and it remains the largest protected area in the Mexican Caribbean. Possibly the most astonishing part of the Yucatan peninsula, it is located 2 hours south of Cancun near the small town of Tulum. When you are travelling to the Riviera Maya, especially to Tulum. Tulum has two great attractions, one being the Tulum Ruins and one is the UNESCO World Heritage Site Sian Ka’an, still not very known, but when visiting Tulum or the Riviera Maya, you should not miss to do a tour with Visit Sian Ka’an. There is no place alike anywhere in the Riviera Maya.
Centro Ecologico Sian Ka’an (CESiaK) is located on the Caribbean Coast of Mexico, near the Mayan Ruins of Tulum, south of Cancun. A small ecotourism and education center, it serves as a model for sustainable development in sensitive tropical ecosystems. The revenue generated through tours, fishing, beautiful accommodations, and various on-site activities is used to fund conservation and education programs within theSian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. The Center operates using ecologically responsible technologies, including systems for wetland waste management, rainwater collection, and solar and wind energy generation. It also operates educational outreach programs and biological research. CESiaK provides a model for other sustainable development projects as well as an informational resource for the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. The Biosphere Reserve of Sian Ka’an – with coastal wetlands and shimmering lagoons, is a corner of Mexico renowned for its natural beauty. Sian Ka’an is one of the most spectacular and ecologically diverse places on earth.
